From washing dishes with Garth Brooks to serving dinner to former american president Jimmy Carter. The ups and downs of life as a volunteer with Haven Haiti.
Haven Haiti Volunteer Mission Day 2 Diary Evening Entry
The whistle goes at 3.30pm to finish and just as well because there are some volunteers starting to feel weak and ill from the heat. It’s now 34 degrees and the sun is almost vertically above our heads.
We are given a tour of the houses we built last year and the transformation is unbelievable. What we left as a building site has become a little community with lush gardens, flowers and brightly painted homes.
The community has a well but still no electricity. You can sense the pride that they have in their new homes and it definitely demonstrates that the Charity has the right strategy in place.
I’m on kitchen duty this evening on a serving line beside Garth Brooks and his wife. I have the pleasure of serving former president jimmy carter and his wife roast beef.
I finally get a chance to sit and eat, wrecked. I call home and head for the tent.
Regards
Declan
